November 4, 2008 Indonesia Tourism Seminar Singapore
Indonesia Tourism Seminar
31 October 2008,
Traders Hotel Singapore
Market Overview
There are 12 direct connected destinations between Singapore and Indonesia. Singapore has a strong outbound market, not only
the Singaporeans but also the expatriates living in Singapore. Outbound in 2007 marks
the highest to Malaysia
8’050’000 whilst to Indonesia
only 1’424’900.
Looking at the current financial crisis impacting 20
airlines going bankrupt and the EU&USA airlines facing tough times, the
down side for Asia is the reduced in profit
which even affects SQ, MH and CX. The huge economic activity in China and India
means that Asia is able to survive the crisis
much better than the EU&USA.
Background
Looking at the 2007 arrival number to Indonesia at
5.5 million foreign visitors and out of that number, 1.4 million is from
Singapore, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, working together with the
Embassy of Indonesia in Singapore holds an Indonesia Tourism Seminar last
Friday 31 October 2008, 18:00-21:00 at the Traders Hotel in Cuscaden Road,
Singapore.

Request from additional frequency into Bali
There was a concensus to have increase flight
frequency for both Garuda and SilkAir for route Singapore- Bali. Garuda
responded that they will start the new increased flight as of 01 November 2008.
Attendees
63 people attended the event however only about 20
are worth following through for members of Bali Village.
Name cards are scanned as attached.
Evaluation
1.
The event was now effective enough to attract the
tourism industry in Singapore. The target of 100 attendees only had a 63 people
turn and even that, the potential is only about 20.
2.
The preparation was not thorough by PT Melali MICE,
there was not a briefing organised to ensure that the presentation material was
not overlapping betweent he four speakers.
3.
The Singapore represetative of the Ministry was not
involved and thus there was an issue of boicot from the industry.
From Bali Village point of
view however, the potential can be optimized:
a. Travel agents & airlines staff receiving the
prizes are excited to visit Bali and experience the villa concept that is
becoming popular in the Singaporean market. The houses in Singapore are
mostly flats/condominiums and thus the spacious villa concept is a luxury
that has grown into a trend for holidays.
b. UOB Travel, Ms. Phong (see scanned card) is
interested to put together a new type of “tour”. Her market is the
wedding market and she is looking at “Wedding Photo Shooting” package
starting 01 April 2009. The format is as follows: Day 1 is arrival and
tour of the island, Day 2 & Day 3 are photo shooting, Day 4 is free
day plus departure. Photographers
are from Singapore so the entire package consist of at least 6 people
(wedding couple, make up, photographers and assistants). Staying 4days 3
nights.
c. Tradewinds, Ms. Liang (see scanned card) is
interested in a cooking class, day cooking or even four day cooking
package. She alsready has a market going to Thailand for the cooking
classes and now looking at Bali. Tradewinds is SQ group and has ground
handler in Bali Golden Rama and Pacto.
d. Garuda Indonesia is interested to host a
familiarisation trip for agents (front liners) requiring no accommodation
(the schedule is to arrive in the morning using the new route
Spore-Bali-Perth). Because it is a day trip, the fam trip participants
will look at new villa properties and try a new attraction before
departing back to Singapore using the last flight. This fam trip is
scheduled for November end.
e. SilkAir is interested to make a round trip
package with Villa Lumbung and Villa Ombak Lombok because SilkAir has a
route Singapore-Lombok. Because domestic flight is not recognised by
european passport holders (many expats in Singapore are european),
therefore SilkAir requests for Villa Lumbung and Villa Ombak to put a
package connecting the two properties using a ferry/cruise ride. Two
nights in Villa Lumbung, take a ferry/cruise to Lombok and then two
nights in Villa Ombak, flying back to Singapore using SilkAir.
f. To all participating members, please send an
email to all the attendees. They request a SOFT COPY of all the packages
introduced during the event. Time is of the eseence so please act
promptly.
g. Secretariat will send an email to all Singapore
contacts on 03 Nov to ensure you have a copy of the email addresses as
well.
Thank you, Bali Village
secretariat is proud to serve you better.
